Lakeland launched its Bikeshare program called Swan City Cycles just before Christmas in 2015.  The system has 35 bikes and 7 stations mostly concentrated in Downtown and Dixieland.

The bikeshare company the city partnered with is Zagster, a Massachusetts based company.  They provide a turnkey operation with full customer support and no equipment to purchase.  Once sponsorships were secured, it was easy to get started with the Lakeland system.

The Zagster system is cell phone based.  You must first register for an account – much like NETFLIX or a Sunpass. Once you’ve established an account and connected that account to a cell phone number, you are ready to ride.  If you have a smartphone, download the app which gives you a map of all of the stations and can help with directions to local places.  It also tracks your time on the screen so you know how long your ride session is.  But a smartphone is not required. You can also rent and return a bike via text message.

Be sure to read all about it on the web site:  To get you started we offer you a FREE RIDE promo code: SWANCITY (all caps, no space).  Just enter this into the promo code section under billing for your first free ride.  (Join as an hourly user). Once you love it – AND YOU WILL – change your membership to the annual pass which is only $25 dollars per year for unlimited 90 minute rides.
