PROPOSED Fall and Spring Special Event Schedule!

PROPOSED Fall and Spring Special Event Schedule!

Based on feedback received from our last merchant meeting and from the various merchant committees, we learned that the majority of Downtown business owners would like greater awareness of Downtown events with plenty of advance notice and time for planning.

As a result, we have put together a PROPOSED event schedule. We took into consideration Fall football games (both high school and college), major Downtown events already on the calendar, major holidays, and merchant feedback from previous events.

These are merely the PROPOSED dates and activities taking into account a variety of different considerations, including discussions with merchants. Send us your thoughts and comments. What we would definitely need from you is a commitment to keep your stores open late on those days.

We go to press for the next edition of the Visitor Guide (September 2018-February 2019) next month (July), so we need a consensus from you on this A.S.A.P.! Contact us if you have any concerns.

July-December 2018

Friday, July 27th–Date Night, 5pm-8pm: This event will offer a chance for couples to bond after a long summer spent with the kiddos but before they head back to school. No street closure.

Friday, September 21–Girls Night Out, 5pm-8pm: Avoid the craziness of the October-November months and most home football games. Ladies can head straight from work to the Downtown businesses. No street closures.

Thursday, November 15th–Holiday Open House, 5pm-8pm: This event would replace the traditional Holiday Walkabout with less of a focus on Santa and Christmas lights and more of a focus on the kicking off of the holiday season and holiday shopping and a chance to offer early discounts. Possible street closures depending on potential street activities.

Saturday, November 24th–Small Business Saturday: This is a National Event, but we plan to provide more marketing of this event in coordination with the merchants.

Friday, December 7th–First Friday, 6pm-9pm: Burnetti Hometown Holidays. Scheduled between the Christmas parade on Thursday and SnowFest on Saturday this year, it will offer shoppers a chance to get into the Christmas spirit. Street closures like a normal First Friday.

Friday, December 14 and Friday, December 21–Holiday Walkabouts, 5pm-8pm: All the Fridays before Christmas in December will be “Walkabouts” except for the First Friday. Merchants agree to stay open late. Opportunities for pictures with Santa, Grinch, Elves, etc. Other Holiday-themed activities, like carolers on the street corners. No street closures.

January-June 2019

Friday, February 8th–Date Night, 5pm-8pm: Chance to lure couples to Downtown to celebrate Valentine’s Day a little early and cash in on the spirit of love. No street closures.

Friday, April 12th–Girls Night Out, 5pm-8pm: The same month as the last Girls Night Out but on a Friday instead of a Saturday and early in the month to avoid prom season and graduation. No street closures.
