Bryan Rivers attributes much of his sound to the West Coast folk Rock movement of the late 60’s and 70’s – with a lot of eatles, as well. Groups like The Byrds and Crosby, Stills Nash, and Young had a great effect on his vocal styling. Complementing his melodic sense are well-crafted lyrics that are clever and moving. His long era as a professional student and his wanderlust have given him a sense of the world. Rivers has played his guitar and sung on streets and in bars throughout Europe and Asia. These experiences are manifest in songs he call psychological portraits of people from faraway times and places – that we can see ourselves in. Rivers never takes himself too seriously though, and manages to avoid being preachy. Humor and irony abound in his songs. An Oxymoronic Tale tells a story completely made up of oxymorons.
